Deer

I love sunflowers!

July is when my sunflowers start to bloom. A few are popping up in the front yard right now and I need to plant some more this weekend. We grow a forest of sunflowers in our backyard every year.

Last summer I was trying to work on taking silhouettes. I got my sister and our boys to help me out.

We had a few snow storms in March. Let's hope April only brings rain showers, not snow showers. Thanks to my sister for taking this shot while we were on the road!

Big Sky Country

I know another state has that claim to fame, but Lassen County has some amazing scenery.

Is it spring yet?

This is Susanville Ranch Park. Last weekend we had snow. The days leading up to the snow were warm, high 50's. Then the snow came. Luckily it didn't last long. But it did put a crimp in my gardening. I was supposed to plant onions that day. Hopefully by the time this post goes up, all the onions should be in the ground.

Orchids

My mom's orchids look great. Last year this orchid was cream with no pink. Must be a hybrid, but what plant isn't these days! We were trying to take some nice photos of this outside, but the wind was horrible. I am lucky we got this shot.

Tumble weed invasion!

Right now in Susanville tumble weeds are everywhere. Not only do you see them on the rural roads, they blow across Main Street too!

I was really surprised at the rainbows we had last week in Susanville. My kids loved it!

There are quite a few Mennonite families in Lassen County. I noticed that several families have signs in front of their homes with different sayings. Today and tomorrow I will post a few.

I bet Lassen County has 10 times more cows than people. It is probably hugher than that.

Preparing the fields for spring

I have noticed many fields in Lassen County are being prepared for spring planting. We have alot of hay and alfalfa that grows here.

Another rainbow!

I almost didn't get to photograph this rainbow! It disappeared within minutes of this shot. We pulled over at the Skyline bike trail entrance for this.

Chasing Rainbows

Monday's showers produced rainbows most of the afternoon. I packed the kids up and off we went to chase rainbows. They were sad we couldn't find the end of the rainbow because we might have found a pot of gold guarded by a Leprechaun.

Johnston Family Carriages

Johnston Family Carriages is a newer business in Susanville. I found out that they had haunted carriage rides last fall in Uptown Susanville. I wish I had found out in time to go. This year I will mark my calendar.

Late Valentine's Post

I meant to post this on Saturday, but we had family visiting and I totally forgot! So here it is! My kids, nephew, and I made this on the golf course back in December. Getting six year old boys to cooperate was not easy. Once I snapped this photo, they ran across it, dove to the ground, etc. Little boys are a handful!

Mt. Lassen

This is Mt. Lassen from Highway 89 in Shasta County. Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen are part of the Cascade Mountian Range. The Cascades stop at Eagle Lake, which is just outside of Susanville.

Mt. Shasta

This photo was taken in McCloud, Shasta County, CA. There is a great view from the McCloud City Park, Hoo Hoo Park. Seriously that is the name! We spent the day at Burney Falls and McCloud. Glad we did that last week, this week has been cold with snow.

Deer are everywhere in Susanville

This guy wandered through the park while we were sitting nearby. The deer in this area walk through town and the neighborhoods like it is no big deal.

Roe Vs. Wade Protest

I realized this weekend that I haven't posted anything for a month. I took a few weeks off after a very busy holiday season. Then we all took turns being sick. I took this photo last month when I was on the to pick up some meds from the store.

Skywatch Friday

This fire happened in June 2007. I went by a friends house and the fire was surrounding many homes just behind her property. Scary!! Luckily the fire fighters put the fire out in record time. No homes were lost, just a few vehicles and out buildings.
