We had a few snow storms in March. Let's hope April only brings rain showers, not snow showers. Thanks to my sister for taking this shot while we were on the road!

Clearing the snow

Last week after the heavy snow, this person was clearing their driveway early in the morning.

On Monday the weather cleared up for a few hours, then dumped more snow on us. My kids were shaking the trees and laughing hysterically when all that snow from those branches fell on their heads. A little while later they were freezing to death and *needed* hot cocoa.

The snow plows made a fast appearance on Monday.

Don't eat the yellow snow I say to my kids. "But why?" They ask. Follow the dog and you shall see. Luckily they heeded my advice.

More snow!

The last week has been odd. Temperatures earlier in the week were 59 degrees during the day. It was a welcomed change. But, we had snow again by Friday. Yesterday it snowed on and off most of the day.

My kids played outside in the afternoon. We shoveled the driveway, but it was covered again before we went inside. You can see the snow pile up in the bushes outside. I was glad to see little buds on the branches. Hopefully spring will be here soon!

This road is at the edge of the city limits. It looks a little lonely, but directly on the left is the Indian Rancheria housing.

Another Susan River Parkway Photo

Here is another photo of the Susan River Parkway. Luckily most of the snow has melted away and the pathway was cleared by the city. It was a very nice walk and we passed a few others out enjoying the heat wave of 44 degrees, lol. This is a great walk in the spring and early summer when all the trees and bushes are full of leaves. It's also great in the fall when the leaves are just starting to turn colors.

Yesterday we saw some woodpeckers that were very colorful. My chatty 5 year old scared them off before I could snap a good photo.

Ice ice everywhere.........

Ok, the cold and snow is getting old. I cannot wait for spring to come. I know that February is usually our coldest month here in Susanville, but can't we just fast forward?!

This creek is frozen over, much like the streets here. The sun is out right now, I hope it melts some of the snow. Realistically, I know it will melt the snow somewhat, but that will freeze into an icy mess.

Susanville Mill

The old mill was closed by Sierra Pacific a few years ago. The days of the lunchtime whistle and endless smoke from the different smoke stacks are gone. It was once commonplace to see logging trucks stacked full with logs.

There is a plan to tear down the mill and convert the land to open space, residential and commercial areas. A river walk is planned. We will see if this project ever gets off the ground with the current housing slump.

Bizz Johnson Bike Trail

This bridge is part of the Bizz Johnson Bike Trail along the Susan River. The bridge crosses over South Lassen Street, just a few blocks south of the courthouse. I took this photo last winter. This photo is going to be featured in an area guide available at the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses.

The Artic Storm is here....

Yesterday the storm we have been waiting for started to come in. It started raining last night and finally turned into snow this afternoon. Blizzard warnings are in effect until Saturday morning.

Hopefully our power will stay on. If the winds that hit Sacramento this morning come our way, the power might be off again. Stay safe everyone!
