An article came out in the Lassen County Times today about the magazine Outdoor Life. Needless to say our little town is very pleased being mentioned in a national publication. Outdoor Life listed Susanville as #29 out of 200 as one of the best places for hunters and fisherman to live. They also wrote that Susanville is one of the top, if not the top area to live on the Pacific Coast for hunting and fishing. Fishing season starts this weekend as does the opening of camping season.
Here is another photo of Eagle Lake. Eagle Lake is home to the famous Eagle Lake Rainbow Trout. This photo was taken near Pelican Point. It's a short hike from the paved bike trail down to the water, but its a great area when the Pelicans are there.

I am not a hunter or a fisher but I love the Pelicans!
Oh, Pelicans are such fun birds to watch! I think the first I saw with my own eyes was at Bodega Bay many years ago. I was tickled!
Thanks for your kind comment today. ~Chuck
How exciting to get in the magazine! We used to take Outdoor Life. I always enjoyed the photography.
When I first saw your thumbnail, I thought you had your own Loch Ness monster! This is a great photo; miles of forest, miles of water, miles of sunshine.
Fabulous photo, Jana! and what a wonderful mention for your area!
The pelican has a lovely aura of light around it. I didn't know that pelicans lived in California. I really enjoy your scenic photos.
Well, it's so lovely there it's no surprise you all were listed Jana! Congratulations! This is another great shot and it makes me wish I was there to enjoy the scenery.
Great shot and congratulations!
Congratulations on your placement in the list and mention in a national publication. Personally I no longer hunt or fish however I have very fond memories of hunting and fishing with my dad when I was a child.
Congratulations on making Outdoor Life! And boy oh boy am I impressed by your pelican. I've never gotten the hang of wildlife photography.
that's a beautiful photo, very picturesque... so i guess the pelican is busy fishing in this shot =)...
I don't get up to Eagle Lake very often but I love that stretch on 36 just before Chester that's full of birds of all kinds. Great pelican photo.
Thanks for the comment about the fair. I thought about my post, which was really just a rant and a ramble, and thought maybe I should tone it down a bit. And then I thought, nah, it's not like anyone from around here actually reads my blog. Ouch. Well, I didn't say anything that wasn't true, but I hope you dont think I'm always so snotty about things. It's just a touchy subject for me.
It's nice to "meet" someone who's a neighbor. We've probably bumped into each other at Safeway, etc. It's fun to see local photos through the eyes of others. I bet I have a zillion photos (okay, probably an exaggeration - maybe just a thousand - hehe) of the area on my blog that you'd know where I took them.
And just for the record, you might call yourself a wannabe photographer but I'd argue that you are most definitely a REAL photographer. Sorry to ramble on but there wasn't a way to e-mail you privately.
Who doesn't love the pelicans! Great photo, Jan!
