"The mountian is smiling at me!" That is what my 6 year old was yelling when he saw this. This mountian is across from the Hat Creek Rim Scenic rest area on Highway 44 between Susanville and Old Station. I am assuming the brown areas were logged, but what a funny mark it left.

I read an article recently in the New Yorker about illegal logging that's going on all over the world, primarily in Russia.
Then there was another article in another issue about illegal olive oil. Sesame oil or hazelnut oil is mixed with real olive oil or simply substituted to bring in a higher price.
It's scary to read and see such things!!
