The fire burned right up to this home and the home next to it. The CDF planes and helicopters were pretty impressive that day. We were sitting in my friends backyard watching this unfold.
The Diamond Mountians are in the background. I am pretty sure the home in this photo is for sale right now.
The area that burned is now a black hillside. During a recent windstorm, dirt from the burned hillside was blowing across the highway, a mile or so away. Luckily we passed through the dust storm before it was too thick to see.
No homes were burned during this fire. A few outbuildings, vehicles, and fences did burn.

Timming is everything
Amazing catch, Jana!
I guess that's the price we have to pay for living in Paradise - you, with the fires, I, with the hurricanes...
That is an amazing photo, Jana! I had to call DS and DH in to see that one. I hope that the fires manage to clear soon. That is a horrible thing to have to live with.
I wanted to thank you for the award you passed to me the other day! I'm sorry that I had missed your comment earlier in the weekend (it was a crazy weekend). I'm so glad that you enjoy visiting my blog, because yours delights me every day. :)
Thanks Southern Heart. These fire photos are from June 2007. Last year was not a bad fire year, so lets hope 2008 is the same!
I guess if that was my house and I had a close call, it would be for sale also.
Did the house and its occupants escape the fire? Living there seems very precarious.
Clarice, Yes no one was home at the time. I am not sure how the firefighters saved all the homes, but no homes were lost.
Wonderful photo, and also the previous one. I guess every place on the planet has its good points and bad, in Port Elizabeth, we would be in paradise if it wasn't for the crime!
