Last weekend this thunderstorm sparked fires all over Northeastern California. Last weekend dry lightening caused 800 fires/incidents throughout California and Northern Nevada. The weather report calls for thunderstorms this weekend. I am not looking forward to that! This is another fantastic photo taken in the car! You can barely see my grandparents car on the road in front of the fire station.

Forest Fire Season in California
This weekend hundreds of small fires broke out in Northern California. A huge thunderstorm rolled through the north state. Our little area is nestled at the tip of a long and narrow valley. The smoke from a fire about 30+ miles away is rolling over the mountains and sitting here in the valley. Hopefully the fires can be contained. In August of 1999, Susanville was covered in smoke for 30 days. That was my first summer here and I wondered if we made a mistake moving!
This is a photo of yesterday's sunset.
For an incident map of the current fires, check here: http://www.wildcad.net/?WildWeb=CAPNF
It will take a minute for all the fires to pop up on the map.

Walker Lake/Dyer Mountian
The Walker Lake/Dyer Mountain area is less then 20 miles outside of Susanville. This area is right next to the small town of Westwood. I am assuming this is the Walker Lake area, I am not very familiar with this area. But I am pretty certain I have it right. Famous last words, right?!! I hope to 'discover' the road to Walker Lake this summer. I need to ask some longtime residents for the directions.
There was a company that planned to develop a year round, 5 star resort on the side of Dyer Mountain. The company went bankrupt, so I doubt this project will happen. In one way it would be great for this county to have more jobs. Since the mills have closed, there hasn't been work for many residents. But on the other hand, this beautiful area across the lake would have condos and a giant hotel. The roads/traffic would be a disaster since the county approved a HUGE project yet made no attempts to fix the winding highways. Many people move to this area because they want a slower paced way of life, same as the long time residents. A year round resort would really change that. There are many other issues, too many to list!!!!

Wild flowers and oak trees
Late May is always beautiful in Susanville. We had cold weather for most of May. But the end of May everything was green and blooming. This photo is the wooded area at Inspiration Point. This little park overlooks the city of Susanville from the west end of town.
Here is a view of Susanville from Inspiration Point last year.

Sunset in Spring
This is the view from Skyline Park looking west. The night I took this photo, there was a teenage couple 'parked' in the dirt parking lot next to the bike trail. These kids needed some private time, so they parked next to a BIKE TRAIL! We were crampin' their style standing near the bike trail waiting for the right few minutes to take this photo. LOL
I am still having blogging issues. I cannot open the comments window. I have to right click and then click on 'open in different window.' I also cannot add or edit page elements. I couldn't update the City Daily Photo list back in April. I checked blogger help and blogger groups with no luck. My emails asking for help were not returned. I have two other blogs and I can add and edit page elements on them, but not here. Sigh......If anyone has ideas on what I can do, please leave me a comment.
