The caboose on Richmond Road sits on the train tracks that took Susanville from a tiny ranching community to a milling town early in the 20th century. The mills are closed, but the caboose, a rebuilt depot, and a small section of track remain.

I think the mountain in the background is Susanville Peak. You can see many trees turning colors amongst the pines.

Cabooses are such cozy and friendly looking rail cars. It would be fun to ride in one sometime.

Great picture, I remember seeing the guy sitting out the window of the cabooses when I was a kid. Trains here dont have cabooses.

These train specimins are always fenced off, and you know, kids - big and little - just long to climb on them. Would that be wrong?

It never occurred to me that the lower ridges to the north have names. well, duh! You were so close to my house taking this photo, how come you didn't stop by for a cuppa!? I would have cleared a few cats out of the way so you could sit down. LOL!
We were gone this year for the Chili Cook Off - I think for football. I'm bummed we missed it. One of my favorite local events.

I missed the chili cook off too. We were canning tomato sauce and it was much more of an undertaking then we ever thought!
