Paul Bunyan and Babe the Ox

Westwood, Ca is one town over from Susanville. It is about 16 miles away. Westwood is said to be the place where the Paul Bunyan legend began. There are several other towns across the US that have the same claim. Westwood has two large statues as a tribute to the logging legend.

I loved the legend of Paul Bunyan an his ox. I'm sure children are delighted to see this.

Its been years since I read or read about Paul Bunyan and Babe. Neat statues.

The Paul Bunyan legends/stories are a much more pervasive presence in the northern woods of Wisconsin and Minnesota, where I grew up. I'm gonna have to say I side with their claim as being Paul's birthplace. I do like the Chester statues though. Have you seen the humongous ones at Trees of Mystery on Highway 101 over on the coast?

I saw the huge statues on Highway 101 as a kid, I will never forget them!

Paul had very long legs so it stands to reason he might have made his presence felt in other towns in the area as well. He and Babe were so distinctive they were bound to leave a strong indelible impression :)
