The Lassen County Courthouse is a great old building. There is some controversy surrounding the courthouse these days. The state has ordered Lassen County to build a new courthouse. This old courthouse is too small, has security flaws, etc.
The unfolding drama is whether the county must return the courthouse to the family that donated the land. The family contends that if this parcel of land is not used as a county courthouse, it is to be returned to them. The county of course wants to hold onto the land.
I think this building would make for an amazing library, or museum, or both. We will see what happens in the coming months. I will post a photo of the entire building tomorrow.

I like the pattern of the picture.
Sad story about the Courthouse. It would be nice if they could continue to use it as some type of Courthouse. It does seem a shame that if it should revert back to the family that the government would screw them over. But thats to be expected by our government. Its all about the $$$$ and how they can line their pockets. OK I will shut up now.
LOL Jim. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens. Its a small town and our radio station has been covering it on the noon time talk.
Thanks for all of your vists/comments. This photo is great. When will we get to see the entire building, pretty please? I hope that it doesn't get bull-dozed, no matter what the rest of it looks like.
Thanks for your visit.
I like the idea of the county using the land as it was intended or the people who donated it getting the land back. Seems reasonable to me.
Maybe some deal can be worked out to suit both parties.
Lovely photo.
Looking forward to seeing the whole building.
It most certainly should be used for something. I hope...
I love the angle on this photo...very lovely detail. I hope that things can be worked out to everyone's satisfaction.
i love the details like this in older buildings... i'm sure they'll find a good use for the building, rather than give the land back =)
Hey, Jana!
I like the photo. . .Too bad about the controversy. . .It's always something, isn't it?
Re: snow. . .I grew up in NE Ohio in the snowbelt, and we NEVER got out of school, no matter how deep the snow was!
This will be a very interesting story line, Susan. And I hope to hear how it all turns out.
Woops, I called you Susan thinking you were writing about Janaville. Hah.
Love the pattern. Let's see the whole building. thanks. MB
