Douglas County Bus

One of the drawbacks to living in a rural area are travel time for kids athletics. This Douglas County, NV bus is parked in the High Country Inn parking lot while the kids are playing sports. These kids probably drove 3 hours to get here. The drive home tonight might be longer, we have had heavy snow flurries today.

The High Country Inn is the newest hotel/motel in Susanville. The other motels are pretty old, most are from the 50s and 60s and look a bit dated.

Jana, that is definitely an issue for friends' children who live in adjacent counties, too. Some have long rides every day to school, too.

School bus photos make me smile...I think they remind me of simpler times.

Long ride for sports. In Texas they travel like that for football, but thats all they know down here.

Hi Jana! I was next to a bus today and tried to get a good shot but didn't. Your bus pic just made me remember that. Have a great weekend!

Yes, rural can be rough. One of my kids had about a 45 minute bus ride every day to school and back.

When I was a kid I rode the bus 24 miles each day, twice a day actually. It was a joy when my parents moved into town and I could walk to school in 15 minutes.

Jana, I hope your husband gets all the best of medical care and is up and at 'em again soon.

Thanks Annie! He will probably have knee surgery in the coming months.

Man, snow flurries! I'd be a bit hesitant about my child riding 3 hours in snowy weather. But sports involvment is definitely good for them.
